Episma Saccharina or fishmoth is the common species of silverfish found across Australia. These are small wingless silvery creatures that resemble fish in its movements. These feed on starch and sugar. These small creatures grow 13-25 mm long. This species found in silvery light grey and blue color. These pests have three tails at the abdomen. The newly hatched silverfish are whitish and shiny. When the young silverfish grow older, it gets a grayish hue and metallic shine color. This species has two compound eyes. It has a pair of long antennas. The small silvery monsters lifespan varies with the environment’s suitability and can live from two to eight years. These prefer to dwell in moist areas and commonly found in attics or basements. The fish moth causes extensive damage to clothing, carpet, photos, papers, book bindings, cotton, silk, synthetic fibers and linen products. These also feed on dead insects. This species can survive for a year without any food.
