Lepisma saccharina has a silvery scaled flat body that tapers into three tail-like appendages. Two of the tail-like extensions are on both sides and the middle one at the center. These creatures have two long antennas. Adult Lepisma saccharina grow 1-2 cm long and move rapidly like a fish. This species of silverfish dwells in indoors in warm spaces. These get also found in damp environments like bathrooms and kitchens. These are nocturnal and rarely found outdoors. The creatures avoid direct light and reside in dark spaces. The pests feed on crumbs, cereals, food scraps, dried meat, moist wheat flour, clothes, papers, etc. The adult female silverfish in this species lays its eggs in cracks and crevices. It may lay over 100 eggs in a single place or may deposit in small groups. The eggs hatch in 3-6 weeks. The adults continue to shed their scales throughout their life.
