Blue Ant Wasp is not an ant rather it is a flightless wasp. This species of wasp is solitary and native to Australia. These flightless wasps have a distinctive metallic blue-green body and red legs. The adult females in this species grow up to 25mm long while the male is around 15mm and has wings. The adults feed on nectar while the wasp larvae feed on other insects. The females are stinging, and their sting causes severe burning sensation and swelling. The stings can be life-threatening for persons with allergic reactions. These wasps are found largely in urban areas, forests as well as woodlands.
