TheMelomys Burtoni or Grassland Melomys are large mouse species with a body length of 100 mm. Its tail is longer than the body, i.e. 120 mm. The weight of an adult mouse is 55 grams. A fully grown mouse has harsh reddish-brown fur which is dark on top and a whitish underside. The tail is hairless with small scales. The hind foot of the adult mouse is less than 26 mm. This species of rodent is rarely encountered but are common in grasslands, heath fringes, and mangroves. This mouse species has close similarities with water mouse and Fawn-footed Melomys. This species of mouse is very aggressive with other rodents of its kind.
