The Norway Rats are massive in size that can grow up to 40 cm and weight may increase up to 500 grams. Alone the tail of these large pests would measure 21 cm. Its body remains covered with shaggy fur that may be brown or gray in color. Ears and tail of these species are covered with scales and the tail generally is shorter than the head and body. This species builds nest underground and invades the buildings in search of food. They remain active during the nights. The Norway Rats are omnivores and can feed on any food source. They can consume meat, fruits as well as grains. These rodents feed on dead animals and can also catch small rodents and fishes. To live they need water so they prefer to build nests near to water sources. Though these rodents are not social, they live in communities with dominant and subordinate members. Within 2-5 months of taking birth, these rodents attain sexual maturity. The lifespan of these rodents is 1 year. They get attracted towards homes in search of the necessities of life and cause extensive damage to the property.
