Coptotermes Acinaciformis
Coptotermes Acinaciformis are widely found throughout Australia and are common in urban areas. These termites are social and build communal nests. The termites target the root crown of the tree or the underground to build their nests. These termites are known to cause extensive damage to the trees as well as the wooden parts of the buildings. This species builds mound which can extend up to 50 m from the nest which allows the workers to access sources of wood to feed. These termites build nests in the cavities of the walls with moisture availability. Millions of termites get found in a large colony. This species of termites can also be found inside a patio or under a concrete slab which protects their nest and also retains constant moisture and temperature. In search of food, these termites attack other materials than wood that includes electrical wiring as well as other stuff within a building.
