Sydney Funnel-web spider is black in color and large in size. The spiders in this species grow up to 4.5 cm. The spiders have powerful fangs and are aggressive. The Sydney-Funnel-web spiders are venomous and both male and female are dangerous. The spiders inject venom into the body when they bite. Immediate medical attention is required to treat the bite.
This species of spiders prefer moist and cool places for their habitat and are mostly found in south-eastern regions of Australia. These spiders are mostly found within a radius of 160KM from Sydney. The spiders usually prefer to dwell in silk-lined burrows and cracks. The hideouts of the spiders get easily identified for the trip lines at the entrance. The males invade to the interiors during summer and autumn season in search of females.
