Aedes Vigilax

Aedes Vigilax transmits Murray Valley Encephalitis, Barmah Forest Virus, Kunjin, Sindbis and Ross River Virus. This species is a major pest in northern areas of Australia including few coastal parts in the south. These mosquitoes are mid-sized and have a darkish appearance. These filthy pests have banded legs and proboscis with pale scaling. The scutum is dark bronze and contains few golden scales. The wings are dark scaled with sparse mottling of white scales. This species of mosquitoes breed in the saline habitats usually on the mudflats behind the mangroves. The eggs hatch due to the inundation of high tides. Rainfall can also initiate hatching of eggs. These mosquitoes remain active during the summers and mid-spring. The adults attack humans as well as animals during evening and night. The adults also attack during the daytime in sheltered areas.
