Culex Annulirostris are native to Australia and gets regarded as a serious pest. The females under this species are moderate-sized and dark brownish with single pale and broadband on the middle portion of the proboscis. The scutum is dark bronze colored with golden narrow scales. The mosquitoes have dark scaled wings. This species of mosquito is hard to identify as several other similar species of mosquitoes have similar appearance. The adults remain active during the mid-spring to late-autumn. These mosquitoes readily feed on human bloods but also attack other mammals and birds. The feeding activity remains high after sunset which lasts for 2 hours and also attack during the dawn. This species of mosquitoes transmit Murray Valley Encephalitis, Barmah Forest, Kunjin and Ross River Virus. The mosquitoes can also carry dog heartworm.
