These beetles are black colored with small brown legs and antennae. These beetles are true threat in larval stage. The larvae grow up to 7mm and are reddish-brown covered with tiny hairs. The larvae feed on natural fibers. The larvae are known for damaging carpets, upholstered furniture, clothing, curtains, bedding, etc.
These beetles are also found in pantries. This species of beetle is destructive because of its larvae. The larvae feasts on diverse keratin-based products like wool, silk, furs, etc. This family of beetles cause extensive damage to the household properties and also contaminates food products. The larvae enjoy dwelling in warm and dark environment infesting the wardrobes and other spaces. Larvae of this species of beetles leave shells as they moult which causes allergies in humans.
