The Blow Fly is metallic blue/green/black in color. This species of flies get easily identified for its noisy flight. The adults in this species grow up to 8-10 mm long and are slightly larger than the house flies. The male blowflies have feathery hairs on the terminal of the antennal segments. The adults have sponge-like mouth parts but the maggots have hook-like mouthparts. The blowflies get attracted towards the decaying carcasses and are the first organisms that come into contact with the decaying dead bodies. The larva in this species needs meat of dead animals for survival and growth. These also prefer for the plants that give smell of rotten meat. The eggs of these flies hatch within few hours and within few days they will emerge as adults. These flies also target fresh wounds of animals including humans. Each female fly deposits 200-400 eggs near the open wound. Severe infestation may lead to death of animals.
