The Fermentation flies are also called vinegar flies. These flies grow up to 3-5mm long at their adult stage. This species of flies are found generally in vibrant colors, i.e. brown to brownish, dullish yellow and black. They have red eyes and the head and thorax portions are tan in color. The abdominal portion is grey/black in color. The flies in this species get attracted towards fermented fruits and vegetables. These flies also hang out on moist bread, alcohol, and sweet syrup. The females lay the eggs near fermented food. The eggs of the flies take around 24-30 hours to hatch and the flies reach the adult stage within six days. The flies become sexually active within two days. These flies get easily identified near drain systems, organic waste, and waste bins.
